‘The Third Eye’ is a group exhibition of contemporary Lebanese artists curated by Costantino D’Orazio, including the artists Ziad Antar, Nadim Asfar, Pascal Hachem, Lina Hakim and Johanne Issa. The exhibition explores the conceptual development of this young generation of artists, whose practice moves away from overtly political or geocentric statements. Featuring installation, photography and video, Selma Feriani Gallery presents uniquely engaging artworks which take as their starting point the highly personal perspectives of the artists themselves, and employ new visual languages of disillusionment and irony.
The artwork concentrates on the suspended environment and the exploration of particulars, achieving a wholly subjective response from the viewer and revealing the instability of contemporary outcomes. One book based installation by Lina Hakim entitled ‘Beirut Letters’ features a delicately transformed novel written by Hanan El Shaykh. Hakim translates the poetic dream of escape found within the novel, into physical boats cut from the leaves of the book and observed sailing away. Hakim’s idiosyncratic work is symbolic of all the works in this exhibition which share with the audience messages of individual unease or contradiction, yet have international relevance.

British Ultra Marathon veterans Jackson Griffith (37) & John Tyszkiewicz (47) are facing the challenge of a lifetime with a self managed attempt at the first ever non-stop run across Lebanon in the Middle East. The duo resides in Essex (Epping and Saffron Walden respectively) but has travelled extensively together in recent years in the pursuit of extreme running challenges in different parts of the world.
This latest project however will be their most daring yet with Jackson and John planning to run non-stop from the Lebanese border with Syria in the north to the border with Israel in the south, travelling over roads, trails and mountain tracks for more than 165 miles and for an estimated 40 hours.
