The Sir David Roberts Memorial lectureExcavations in Sidon“The work and coming museum in Sidon is destined to become a byword for excellence in its field…”“Archaeology does not come more exciting than this!”Dr. Claude Doumet-Serhal Special Assistant the British Museum
For 17 years the British Museum in conjunction with the Department of Antiquities of Lebanon has unearthed thousands of artefacts from College site, an archaeological excavation plot located in Sidon. The city’s forthcoming archaeological museum, currently under construction, will exhibit not only the abundant artefacts found in Sidon but also allow the exploration of the preserved site from where they were unearthed. This all-inclusive approach will be at the forefront of the modern museum experience as visitors will learn the history of a city as it unfolds uninterrupted from the end of the 4th millennium BC through to the medieval period and unique, not only in Lebanon but the whole of the Middle East.
